Every electric van below is exactly three years old, so what you are looking at is the vans, not their ages. As far as we can tell nobody has published this before. Free to cite — the method is at the bottom.

Vans are harder on themselves than cars. At three years old an electric van passes 81.3% of the time against 87.1% for an electric car — from 16,527 and 572,965 tests respectively. That is what a working life does.

What this does not tell you

Payload — and for an electric van that is the number that decides it

A battery pack weighs several hundred kilos, and on a 3.5-tonne van that comes straight off what you can carry. We do not have payload, load length, cargo volume or towing figures, so we are not publishing van buying guides. A pass rate tells you how the van holds up. It does not tell you whether it can do your job.

Battery health

No record shows it, for a van any more than a car. Only a physical test measures it.

Method

DVSA anonymised MOT test data, test years 2023 to 2025, Open Government Licence v3.0. Test class 7 — goods vehicles between 3,000 and 3,500 kg. Electric only. Initial tests only, so retests are excluded. Results P, F and PRS; pass rate is P divided by P+F+PRS.

Age-matched. Every figure in the chart is vans at exactly three years old. Comparing whole fleets would measure age, not vans — the electric van parc is very young and very unevenly aged.

Coverage. 27,447 of 27,970 electric class-7 tests (98.1%) fold into one of these 11 nameplates. Nothing with fewer than 500 tests is published, and no single age with fewer than 150.

One thing we are careful about. Peugeot Expert, Vauxhall Vivaro, Citroen Berlingo and Renault Kangoo also appear as test class 4 — the Combi / crew / passenger versions. Those are different vehicles with different use and are counted on the car pages, never merged with these.
